These compounds help the hygiene product to stick to the skin. They also help stabilize the scent of the product. However, the compounds can build up in the underarm area over time. They can disrupt the androgen functions of the body that can lead to a hormonal imbalance.




Silica is a skin irritant. It can also contain contaminants such as crystalline quartz, which is a known carcinogen.




This compound is a common deodorant ingredient because of its antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral properties. However, it is also a known endocrine disruptor. The body can accumulate triclosan, and researchers have detected it in the urine, blood, and mothers’ breast milk.


Propylene Glycol


Lastly, there’s propylene glycol. It helps in the absorption of sweat, which makes it the ideal ingredient for deodorants. However, studies showed that the compound has a bad effect on the central nervous system. It is also linked to depression and seizures.


These are just some of the toxic ingredients found in deodorant. You should read the ingredients of the product before buying it. The good news is that there are many safe alternatives on the market that will help you keep your armpits dry throughout the day.
